Campz
298,485 spots verified live, right now

Tell campz what you need tonight.

Ask in your own words — quiet, free, near Annecy, water on site, 3.2 m high — and get real places back, checked by the travelers who were just there. Find tonight’s spot before you’re tired of driving, and the water, laundry and dinner around it.

Free to browse, no account needed. Three assistant questions a month on the house.

A filter sheet can’t hear “somewhere quiet, I’m tired”

Campz answers from the live database, never from memory: it searches the same 298,485 spots the map draws, then hands back a short answer and the actual place cards under it — with the facts each pick was judged on, so you can disagree with it.

It knows your van
Height, length and weight live on your travel profile, so a 3.2 m rig is never shown a 2.5 m barrier. A spot with no stated limit fits by default — silence isn’t a barrier.
It knows the trip, not you
Where you are, the day you named, where you’re driving to — sent with the question and forgotten after it. What campz learns about how you travel is yours to read and rewrite.
It reads the weather
Rain on the pass tonight changes the answer, and the answer says so.
Three free questions a month
Only an answered question spends one, and the month resets on the 1st. Pro isn’t more questions — it’s the end of counting them.

In the app today. The same tools run as an MCP server, so Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT can plan against the live database too.

Somewhere quiet for tonight, free if possible — I’m 3.2 m high

Searching 309,000 spots, checking tonight’s weather, ruling out anything a 3.2 m van cannot enter…

One question, the work it did, and the places it came back with.

These are live rows, not a mockup

The highest-rated spot in each of six countries, drawn with the same card the app’s list uses — real photo, real decision chips, real freshness. Open one.

One app, from the first spot to the last night

Every spot, never a cluster bubble

Zoom-progressive reveal instead of clustering — each pin appears as you get close, so a ‘47’ bubble never hides what’s underneath. Normal, terrain and satellite basemaps.

Freshness you can check

One-tap “Still here / Needs recheck”, geofenced to 2 km and verified on-device, one row per traveler per spot. A spot that closed gets a verdict, not a quiet deletion.

Every review, in your language

Scraped and community reviews merge into one list per spot, and the ones written in a language you don’t read arrive translated — labelled as a translation, with the original a tap away.

Works when the signal doesn’t

Download a whole country — spots and vector basemap — and the map keeps working in airplane mode. The Alps without signal is the point.

Save it, then share it

File favorites into named Lists — “Pyrenees, September”, “places with a real shower”. Publish one as a link anyone can open, or invite a friend to edit it with you. Opening a shared List never needs an account.

Ask instead of filtering

The assistant reads the same live database the map draws, and hands back places with the facts each pick was judged on. Three questions a month are free.

Seventeen amenities, on every place, filterable together

Ask for two and a place must have both. The filter only ever offers values that exist in what you’re looking at, with live counts beside them — so you never tap your way to an empty map. These are the app’s own chips and its own icons.

The other 349,000+ places a week on the road needs

Seven reference layers sitting under the spots — each with its own colour on the map and its own “nearby” section on a spot’s page. Every one is off until you switch it on: someone who came here to find a field to sleep in never gets shown a padel club unasked. The pins below are the pins the map draws.

Public toilets

176,000+

Not the “this campsite has toilets” fact — the nearest block at all, when you are parked somewhere that has none. Opening hours, fee, wheelchair access and a baby table where the source states them.

Source: OpenStreetMap + Campz

Gyms

80,000+

Outdoor fitness stations and indoor gyms, narrowed to free or paid. The apparatus a gym names is shown, never used to filter — only a fifth of outdoor stations list theirs, so filtering by pull-up bar would empty the map.

Climbing

26,000+

Crags, boulders and indoor halls, narrowed to outdoor rock or indoor walls. A wet week and a dry one want opposite answers, so the layer asks which before it draws anything.

MICHELIN restaurants

19,000+

Stars, Bib Gourmand and Selected entries, choosable by award. For the night the van stays parked and dinner is the plan.

Fresh water

17,700+

Drinking-water points that exist on their own, away from any spot — the answer to an empty tank on a Sunday when every aire is full.

Laundries

17,400+

Self-service laundrettes, with opening hours and card payment where they are recorded. Week three is when this becomes the most important layer on the map.

Padel courts

10,000+

Clubs and court counts, because a rest day is still a day. Both open datasets are credited wherever the layer renders.

A public toilet is not a spot: none of these can be slept at, checked into or reviewed, and none of them enter the map’s own counts. Contains data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL) and club data from Padel Snipe (CC-BY 4.0).

The map stays true because people keep it true

Check-ins, photos, reviews and new spots all come from the road. What that’s worth is priced server-side at the moment of the act, and it pays back in something to look at.

Add a spot

A guided flow with photos, services and the questions that place type can actually answer. Community spots then behave exactly like scraped ones — same filters, same map, same detail page.

Points, priced at write time

Every contribution is worth what it costs to make: a first check-in in eight months pays more than the tenth this week. An append-only ledger, an opt-in quarterly leaderboard, and twelve badge families with an exactly-known next goal.

A passport that stamps itself

Each country you contribute in prints its own stamp, dated by trip. It is the trip diary the check-ins were already writing.

The whole map is free. Pro is for the long trip.

No spot is behind the paywall and no country is sold separately. One subscription covers the web and both apps.
